Will you die if you take zinc without copper?
No, you will not. Well, at least you won’t die immediately. Everything in life is a balance. Copper and zinc have a balance. Zinc is not in our food. It’s not in the standard American diet, so it’s very likely that you are going to be zinc deficient. I personally don’t recommend taking a lot of copper. Usually it is a 10 to 1 ratio of zinc and copper.
That's the key. Everything is a balance, so you need a balanced diet as well.
Signs of copper deficiency
If you’re taking lots of zinc, and your hair starts to turn grey, that is one of the signs. Another is if you notice that you have fatigue, exhaustion, getting winded really easily. You could be copper deficient. Like I said there needs to be the right ratio though, so you don’t overdose on copper. 10 milligrams of zinc for every 1 milligram of copper.
So where can you find copper? Beef liver is a good source. I like liver supplements better than eating the liver, but you can do that as well. A shellfish, unsweetened baking chocolate, and dark chocolate are all really good sources. Some potatoes, seeds, and nuts as well.

Remember we like two meals a day and lots and lots of water. Just make one of those meals the meal where you have your supplements and you’re set. Have a big salad, have lots of greens, have some healthy foods. You need that whole array and colors are the keys. Take them as a combo and you never have to worry about copper.
